Emitii vs Trello: beyond the kanban board

How does Emitii compare with Trello?

Trello is a visual board tool built on boards, lists and cards, extended with Power-Ups and Butler automation. Emitii includes a kanban Board too, but places it inside a space alongside chat, to-do lists, docs, a schedule and a timesheet, so a client or project needs one tool instead of several.

Who should choose Emitii

  • Teams that want chat, docs and time tracking next to their board
  • Agencies that run each client in its own space with guest access
  • Teams that log billable hours against cards and approve them weekly
  • Small teams that would rather not assemble a workspace from Power-Ups

Who might be better served by Trello

  • Teams that only need a simple, visual board
  • Users who rely on custom fields or a timeline view
  • Teams that depend on Power-Ups to connect many other tools
  • Teams that want built-in Butler automation on every board

The core difference

Trello does one thing very well: it shows work as cards moving across lists on a board. Everything else, from chat to files to time tracking, is added through Power-Ups and integrations, or handled in another app.

Emitii treats the board as one tab among several. Each space holds a Board, to-do lists in Tasks, a group chat called Pulse, Docs & Files, a Schedule and a Timesheet. The kanban part will feel familiar to Trello users, but the conversation and documents around a card live in the same space instead of in a separate chat tool or drive.

Where Trello fits

Trello is a strong choice when a simple, visual board is most of what you need.

  • Easy to start. Boards, lists and cards are quick to learn.
  • Extensible. Unlimited Power-Ups per board connect Trello to hundreds of tools, including Slack, Microsoft Teams, Gmail and Jira.
  • More views. Calendar, timeline, table, dashboard and map views.
  • Custom fields and Butler. Cards can carry custom fields, and Butler automation is built into every board.

Where Emitii fits

Emitii suits teams whose board is only part of the job, especially agencies and service businesses running work for clients.

  • A board with more depth. Cards on the Board carry multiple assignees, due dates, Urgent to Low priority, labels, checklists, a blocked flag with a reason, comments and a time log. Columns can have card limits.
  • Board Rules. Automation rules react to cards being created, moved, completed or assigned, and can move cards, set priority, change labels or set due dates. Each rule has a dry-run preview, a run log and undo.
  • Chat without another app. Each space has its own Pulse chat, and comments on cards support mentions and reactions.
  • Docs and time in context. Docs & Files keeps documents and file versions per space, and the Timesheet logs hours against cards with weekly approval.
  • Clients as guests. Invite a client into their own space as a guest, and share only the cards and docs they should see.

Access

Emitii is invite-only, so teams start by requesting access.

Moving from Trello to Emitii

A practical way to move is to create one space per active board or client, rebuild your list names as Board columns, and recreate open cards. Finished cards can stay in Trello as an archive. Because Emitii columns are free text, you can keep the same To do, Doing and Done flow your team already knows.

If your Trello boards use custom fields, map what they tracked onto labels and priority as you go.

A quick way to decide

Open your busiest Trello board and list what sits outside it: the chat where cards are discussed, the drive holding the files, the calendar with the deadlines and the sheet where hours are logged. If that list is long, Emitii brings those pieces into the same space as the board.

If the board is the whole story and your team is happy with it, there is little reason to move. Trello's simplicity and its Power-Ups are real strengths, and Emitii is a bigger tool to learn.

Closing note

Pick Trello if a flexible board with a large Power-Up ecosystem is what your team needs. Pick Emitii if the board is only one part of running a project and you want the chat, documents, schedule and hours next to it. Read what Emitii is or try a live demo before you request access.

Frequently asked questions

Does Emitii have a kanban board like Trello?
Yes. A space can have a Board (on by default in Project spaces) with free-text columns, cards, labels, priority, checklists and card limits per column.
Does Emitii have something like Butler automation?
Yes, within a board. Board Rules run on triggers such as a card entering a column and can assign, move, label or complete cards, with a dry-run preview and undo.
Can I track time against Trello-style cards in Emitii?
Yes. Cards carry a time log, and the Timesheet records those hours with weekly approval and CSV export.
