Timesheets that sit next to the work

What are timesheets in Emitii?

Timesheets in Emitii let each person log hours against the space, card or to-do the work belongs to, mark each entry billable or non-billable, and submit the week for a manager to approve.

Why time belongs inside the project

When time lives in a separate tracker, people log it at the end of the week from memory, and nobody can see which card the hours went into. Emitii keeps the timesheet as a tab inside each space, so an entry points at the actual card or to-do it was spent on.

How logging works

  • Quarter hours. You record time after the fact in 15-minute steps: a date, the hours and a short description.
  • Billable or non-billable. Each entry carries one flag, so client work and internal work separate cleanly.
  • Linked to work. An entry can point at a card on the board or a to-do in Tasks, and the card shows its own time log.

Weekly approval

At the end of the week each person submits their timesheet. A space manager approves or rejects it, and a rejected or approved week can be reopened when something needs correcting. Everyone sees the status of their week, so there is no chasing by email.

Views and export

  • By day shows what each person logged, day by day.
  • By work groups hours by card and to-do, which answers "where did the time on this project go?"
  • Team scope shows the whole space at once for managers.
  • CSV export hands the numbers to your spreadsheet or accounting process.

A typical week

On Monday a designer logs two hours against the "Homepage mockups" card, marked billable, and half an hour of internal planning, marked non-billable. By Friday their week shows every entry by day. They submit it, and the project lead, who has manage access to the space's Timesheet, reviews the week in the Team scope and approves it. If an entry went to the wrong card, the lead rejects the week with the problem noted, the designer corrects it and submits again. At the end of the month the lead exports the CSV and hands it to finance.

How it connects to the rest of the workspace

  • Cards and to-dos. Each card on the Board shows its own time log, so you can see how long a piece of work really took.
  • Spaces. The Timesheet is a module in each space. The Project and Internal space types turn it on by default; for a Client space, switch it on when you need it.
  • Access. Timesheets have their own access level, so a finance lead can manage timesheets without managing the board. See permissions and access.
  • Emit. The space AI can log, edit or delete time and submit a week for you, and admins can ask it to approve or reject a week. Every change waits for your approval.

Who uses it

Agencies and consulting firms use timesheets to see the real cost of a client engagement. Accounting and audit firms track hours per client file. Internal teams use the Internal space type to understand where their week goes. Software companies log time against cards to see how long features really take compared with the estimate in the card description, which makes the next round of planning more honest. The time tracking and billing use case walks through the whole flow from logging to export.

Good habits for accurate timesheets

  • Log daily, not on Friday. Quarter-hour entries take seconds, and memory fades fast.
  • Link every entry to a card or to-do when there is one, so the By work view tells the real story of the project.
  • Write a short description that someone else could understand, such as "Revised pricing table after client call".
  • Agree what counts as billable at the start of an engagement, so the flag means the same thing for everyone.
  • Approve weekly. A manager who reviews each Friday catches mistakes while people still remember the work.

The timesheet glossary entry covers the wider concept and why teams track time at all.

Hours and their billable status export to CSV, so your existing invoicing tool gets clean numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mark time as billable?
Yes. Every entry is marked billable or non-billable, and the CSV export keeps that flag so you can bill from it.
Who approves timesheets?
People with manage access to the space's timesheet approve or reject submitted weeks. A week can be reopened if it needs changes.
Can I export timesheet data?
Yes. Timesheets export to CSV for spreadsheets, payroll or invoicing tools.
Can the AI assistant log time for me?
Yes. Inside a space you can ask Emit to log, edit or submit time, and it asks for your approval before saving anything.
