Step by step
- Open the Timesheet tab. Open a space with the Timesheet module on (Project and Internal spaces have it by default) and select Timesheet.
- Choose Log time. Choose Log time and pick the date the work happened.
- Enter hours and a description. Enter the hours in quarter-hour steps and describe what you worked on. Markdown is supported.
- Mark it billable or non-billable. Set whether the time is Billable or Non-billable, so client work and internal work stay separate.
- Link a card or task. Optionally pick a board card or a to-do under Card or task, or leave it as general time.
- Submit the week. When the week is complete, choose Submit week. Its status changes to Submitted until a manager reviews it.
How time logging works
Emitii records time after the work is done, in 15-minute steps. Each entry has:
- a date,
- the hours,
- a description of what you did,
- a Billable or Non-billable flag,
- and, optionally, a link to a card on the Board or a to-do in Tasks.
Entries are per space, so hours for each client or project stay with that space.
Linking time to work
When you link an entry to a card or to-do, the hours show up in that item's time log. Open a card on the Board and you can see how much time has gone into it. Search the picker by name, or choose No link for general time such as meetings or admin. See Tasks & board for cards and to-dos.
Views
Use Previous week and Next week to move through time, and Today to come back. There are two ways to read a week:
| View | What it shows |
|---|---|
| By day | Each day's entries and day totals |
| By work | Hours grouped by card and task, so you see where the time went |
The week total and billable time are shown at the top.
People who can manage the timesheet can also switch to the team scope ("See everyone's hours") to see everyone in the space, and filter by person.
Submitting and approving
The timesheet moves through a simple weekly cycle:
- You submit. Choose Submit week once your hours are in. You need at least one entry first.
- A manager reviews. People with manage access to the space's Timesheet see submitted weeks under Review and approve, and choose Approve or Reject.
- Approved or rejected. You see the status of your week. A rejected week can be fixed and sent again with Resubmit week.
- Reopen when needed. If an approved or submitted week needs a correction, a manager can use Reopen so it can be edited again.
Managers are notified when someone submits a timesheet, so there is no need to chase by email.
Exporting to CSV
Choose CSV to download the entries you are looking at. The export keeps the billable flag, which makes it easy to feed hours into a spreadsheet, payroll process or your invoicing tool.
Using the AI
If AI is on for the space, you can ask Emit to log, edit or delete time, or to submit your week. Space admins can also ask it to approve or reject a week. Emit asks for your approval before saving any change. See the AI assistant guide.
Billing from timesheets
Emitii timesheets record hours and whether they are billable. For how teams bill from these numbers, see the time tracking and billing use case, and for an overview of the feature, see the timesheets feature page.
