How to use messages, Pulse and notifications in Emitii

How do messages and Pulse work in Emitii?

Emitii has direct messages and group messages for private conversations, and Pulse, the group chat inside every space. All of them live under Chats in the left rail and share the same tools: threads, @mentions, reactions, pinning, save for later, reminders and search.

Updated 6 October 2026

Step by step

  1. Open Chats. Select Chats in the left rail. The sidebar lists Channels (each space's Pulse) and Direct messages.
  2. Start a conversation. Choose New conversation and type a teammate's name in the To field.
  3. Make it a group if needed. Add more people to create a group, give it a group name, and choose Create group.
  4. Write your message. Type in the composer. Use the formatting tools for bold, lists, code or quotes, and attach files.
  5. Mention someone. Type @ and a name to mention a person so they are notified.
  6. Reply in a thread. Hover a message and reply in a thread to keep a side discussion from cluttering the main chat.

Three kinds of conversation

TypeWho is in itWhere it lives
Direct messageYou and one other personChats > Direct messages
Group messageYou and several people you chooseChats > Direct messages
PulseEveryone in a spaceThe space's Pulse tab, and Chats > Channels

If a topic needs a shared chat, it belongs in a space and its Pulse. A space with guests also has Guest Pulse, the chat for the team plus the space's guests, while Pulse stays team only.

Groups

Anyone can create a group from New conversation. Groups can be renamed, members added or removed, and you can leave or mute a group at any time.

Pulse

Pulse is each space's group chat, and it is always on. It sits next to the space's Board, Tasks and Docs, so a quick question about a card happens where the card is. The Pulse menu has Threads, Pinned, Members and Copy link. If AI is on for the space, you can type @emitii followed by a question in Pulse; see the AI assistant guide.

For longer announcements that should not scroll away, use Posts in the space instead. The posts feature page explains the difference.

Working with messages

Each message has an actions menu:

  • React with Thumbs up, Heart or Laugh, or open More reactions. Your frequently used emoji appear first.
  • Reply or make a thread. You can follow or unfollow a thread, and the Threads list shows threads with unread replies.
  • Edit or Delete your own messages. Edited messages are marked, and deleted ones show "This message was deleted".
  • Copy text, Copy link or Forward a message, with a comment of your own.
  • Pin it, so it appears in the Pinned messages panel.
  • Save for later, which adds it to the Later section on Home.
  • Remind me in 20 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours or tomorrow at 9:00 AM.
  • Mark unread to come back to it.

Mentions

Type @ and a name to mention someone, and they get a notification. "Notify everyone" alerts all members of the conversation, so use it sparingly.

Files and formatting

Attach files and images. Each conversation has a Files tab listing everything shared in it, and links unfurl into previews. The composer supports bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, code blocks, links, quotes, bulleted lists and emoji.

You also see who is typing, who is online, and an unread divider showing where you left off. Voice and video calls, screen sharing and voice notes are coming soon.

Searching messages

Use "Search messages" to find text across your conversations, and "Search conversations" to jump to a chat by name. The Ctrl+K (Cmd+K) palette also finds conversations and people.

Notification settings

Open Settings and go to Notifications to decide how Emitii reaches you.

  • Level: Everything (everything happening in your spaces), Involved (threads you have replied to and conversations you are in), or Just me (only what names you: mentions, direct messages, assignments, invitations and your own deadlines). Every level keeps the notifications that name you.
  • Channels: the in-app bell, push notifications on this device, desktop banners, and email. Choose Turn on notifications to allow push.
  • When you are away: "Email me what I missed" sends a summary, and you can choose which types of notification come by email.
  • Quiet hours hold notifications during set times, and Pause everything stops them until you resume.
  • Mutes let you silence a single conversation or space.

On an iPhone, push notifications work once you add Emitii to your Home Screen from Safari. See Getting started for the steps. Past notifications stay in the notifications archive, filterable by read state, type, sender and date.

Admins can set company-wide email rules per notification type in Admin Console > Notification Email. For more on keeping communication tied to work, read the team communication feature page.
